Sometimes it starts as a pretty random thing – like not being able to get ‘heads, shoulders, knees and toes’ out of my head – which then developed into a great way to describe how to support someone you know is struggling.
Last night I was asked at a creative therapies workshop how do you come up with all these ideas’?
The truth is my brain loves to explore curiously and thrives in the process of creating hands on that helps you explore, reflect, connect and understand.
I love the process in action, the idea that you will discover the answers through your own experiences and the ideas brew in many different ways.
I get bored as a participant if there’s too much talking at me – it needs to be engaging – so that’s what I try and create.
It can be a thought that comes into my mind that I then ‘play’ with and see how it can land- this week it is ‘rock, paper, scissors’
I might experience something in life and think how it can be adapted to reflective learning
Stories and inspiration are everywhere – a stroll through a cheap shop can spark something (and it’s not always the dopamine hit of buying new materials)
I have been to a lot of workshops in my time and some of the very ordinary experiences are the inspiration for adapting and learning differently
If I experience, observe and learn something brilliant, it goes into the tool box to use if needed
I give ideas a go – they dont always work – a very important part of the process
I love speaking in metaphor!
Over 20 years of creating programs, workshops and training this experiential learning muscle is pretty strong. I see, feel and love the curiousity of how does this work in action. How can we make something land, have participants discover and get something from the experience.
I would love to chat if you want some help to create engaging workshops or training.
