As a facilitator something really important happened on Friday, and when I partnered with Office for Small and Family Business this is exactly what I pictured.
While I do know some things about mental health and wellbeing, it is actually about where the expertise is and I can tell you it’s not always me at the front of the room.
We did have the wonderful guest presenter Annie Harvey share some tools, and the moments I love is when…
– we were running late due to some technical logistics and everyone was so connected it was hard to get their attention to start
– Someone jumps up the front and shares their knowledge- we had lots of this happen
– the script and ‘content’ needed to put on the backburner as everyone was so engaged
– keeping it real with the sharing (and understanding) of the not so good bits that are relatable
– the ahhas when they share their experiences with one another
– the bonding over cheese when a participant brings their companys produce (thanks Section28 Artisan Cheeses)
– time went super fast
– the exchange of details to stay in touch
– the connection continued while going out to lunch
– that they were keen for the next session and are planning a break up party (there’s 4 more sessions!)
– each person had actionable takeaways
– the realisation that you need to look after yourself too
the list goes on
In my days of teaching people to become therapists, I always said if I write a book it would be called ‘what’s happening in the room’ as I said it so often.
It is hard to capture the importance of coming together, the sharing, connection, insights and shared wisdom that happened on Friday but one thing I know is that I am grateful to hold space for the exploration and insights.
Thanks also to City of Marion for your support and providing a magnificent space in the Mitchell Park Sports and Community Centre to gather, connect and share.
