Did you vote in this month’s Triple J Australian Hottest 100?
There’s been a lot of chatter about last weekend’s place getters, and I, for one, am here for it!
This week I’ve loved being in workplaces and around friends where it’s been a healthy topic of conversation, banter, competition, connection, excitement, and, of course, disappointment over what made it (or didn’t) to the final cut.
I loved hearing people talking about what particular songs mean to them and the occasions, memories, or events these songs were the soundtrack to.
I loved that people from all ages and backgrounds have been encouraged to experience, recognise, and celebrate talent, creativity, and music.
I loved the human-ness of Jimmy Barnes saying ‘oh bless my soul’ when he was told Cold Chisel had 2 songs in the top 10.
Here’s the thing…. music has an incredible way of connecting us to moments in time; reminding us of the people we were or the people we were with (even if it was just singing into your hairbrush in front of the mirror!). Songs give us an insight into others’ worlds, they help us explain our thoughts and feelings, and take us beyond the daily grind.
Did your top picks make it into the final 100?
Bel.
PS: Is it just me, or is there an entire era of music listed in the Hottest 100 that passed you by?!
Every Sunday afternoon, Bel sends the Ignite community a personal note of encouragement – reflection, inspiration, stories, and sharing. It’s our way of helping you prepare for the week ahead. Add your details here to receive Here’s The Thing in your inbox.
