While I sometimes wonder about my demonstration choices when I am picking them up, I was super pleased about this comment in yesterdays team workshop with District Council of Yankalilla
This is the person whose role (EA) requires them to be across everything (they just spent 15 mins getting the tech to work)
They are the reliable one
The person who volunteers when everyone sits silent
The one who is holding a lot of information that none knows about
The person who supports everyone else
I loved that they left the ball picking up to me – I have had people who literally get down on the ground and start picking them up on the spot, they cant help themselves but its a problem.
It’s the point of the ‘check your balls!’ process – what are you holding that needs to be given back or put down?
What do you take on that you dont have capacity for? eg I didnt ask you to do that
What seems urgent that can wait?
Are you holding the important balls too?
What has dropped that is for you and your wellbeing?
We are not built to hold so much, to be bonbarded with information and be ‘on’ all the time.
My question to you is, what balls are you putting down this weekend so that you can reset, refresh and renew?
‘Please don’t make me pick up all the balls.’
