It was a moment that hit me in the chest

You could hear a pin drop as everyone realised the enormity of the symbolism and the silence amplified through the room.

While this government department had fun connecting, looked at the juggle of life, expressed some niggles, and considered their wellbeing, this is where it all made sense.

We shared that it can be difficult to juggle all the balls at once

Spoke about the balls that we are holding that may be someone elses

That sometimes we take things on when we don’t need to

That we need to put some things down when there are competing priorities

Life is a juggle and we need help to manage all the balls

But, it was the analogy of the glass ball that hit home.

Yes there are rubber balls that bounce around when dropped and can easily be picked up again.

But the glass balls don’t bounce back so easily.

When they get dropped they can shatter and it isn’t so easy to repair them.

That is why it’s important to have strategies to stop the glass balls from dropping in the first place.

You could feel it really hit home with this team and they were able to recognise that their strategies to look after themselves are more than nice things to do.

That they are important too and it is so valuable to take the time to check in with how they are going and what they need right now.

Just in case you were wondering, this isn’t actually about balls!

thankyou Kimberly Howeler for your assistance yesterday and the fabulous team at Department for Infrastructure and Transport for embracing the ball pit of life
