Filling the Tank.

Ignite Life
April 21, 2014

I have chosen to use a classic song to prompt the theme for this weeks Ignite Life.

Apart from being one of my favourite MJ song, Man in the mirror had a message that I can relate to at the moment.

“And No Message Could Have Been Any Clearer If You Wanna Make The World a Better Place Take A Look At Yourself And Then Make A Change”

These are the lyrics that I am talking about. So often we spend a lot of time trying to keeping all the balls in the air for and can forget to look after ourselves. When you are in a caring role, whether it be professionally or personally it is important that we are look at ourselves first so that we can be fully present for others and those that we care for.

I am really passionate about all of the things I have been doing but lately have been burning the candle at both ends. When this happens it is very easy to let the things go that nourish me, the things that make me feel good and help me to sustain all the things that I do. This isn’t the best thing, not only for me but also the people that I am working with – I need to be firing on all cylinders.

On Good Friday I hit the road, cranked the tunes in the car and drove away from everything that has been consuming my time to spend time with friends and take action to make a change. This week is about doing things that I enjoy and really nurturing me so that next week when I return to ‘my life’ I can be running on a full tank rather than pushing myself. And that is only a good thing, especially for my clients.

I have already started my wholesome week and feel so much better, I’m going to report what I have been doing so that I am accountable but also as a reminder that we all need a part of our day to nourish ourselves. So whether it’s spending a few minutes mindfully drinking a cup of tea or doing our favorite past time is about taking care of ourselves so that the people around us get the ripple effect.

Whether you are a parent, carer, wife, husband, professional, tradie, friend or a therapist (like me) you need to have something every day that sustains you.

I really like this Glee version of Man in the Mirror as it has bit of a groove to it so feel free to put it up full bore and have bit of a boogie – that will be great for you!

I welcome any input on what nourishes you and wish you a week full of those things that keep you balanced and feeling good.
